LIfeChurch.tv is in a current sermon series called “Better.” The premise it pretty straight-forward: When you’re faced with choices in the life, the Bible gives you answers of how to make better choices. This particular sermon was based on Proverbs 22:1 which says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
While the teaching focused on what it means for a person to have a reputable name, the whole time I couldn’t help but think about...

There is a lesson for churches in Tebowmania. You can only be true to who you are and can’t control what other people say or think about you.
As a longtime Denver Broncos fan, I hesitate in even writing about this because there is such passionate love and hate that comes in even mentioning the name Tim Tebow. But as someone who lives in the Chicago area, and listens to sports talk radio the day after a Bears loss to the Broncos, I realized that even after nine weeks of Tebow as starting...

Our sister ministry, Under the Radar, recently ordered some Chick-fil-A catering for a concert here in our office. Oddly, we found ourselves in the middle of a rare Chick-fil-A flub. Something didn’t feel right when the chicken-serving, service-oriented restaurant was more than a half hour late delivering the food. We found ourselves in a bizarre, unfamiliar place of shaking our fists and cursing Chick-fil-A for denying us fried chicken goodness.
When the food mercifully arrived, we...

For the past couple of days, I’ve lived in captivity of the glass domed mini-city that is the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville. You may remember that last May, massive floods in Tennessee left part of the Opryland underwater. After months of rebuilding and renovations the compound has reopened.
This is the fourth year I have been a guest of the Gaylord for work. It’s interesting to see what’s changed because of flood damage and what parts have stayed the same. I was chatting with an...

Are you being the best church for your community instead of being the best church in your community?
That’s the question from Rick Rusaw, the Senior Minister at LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, Colorado, that’s still rattling around in my head after The Nines conference.
I think it’s an important distinction. So many times as churches, we look at community service or community events as a way to bring people to us. If we could only get them to our building, then we’d have a chance at...

Many of you probably saw the same article I did about the legal kerfuffle brewing between Best Buy and a priest over his God Squad car. The black VW bug wears a logo rip-off giving it the same feel as the now familiar Geek Squad beetles.
Best Buy sent a cease and desist letter to Father Luke Strand who says he used the car as a ministry tool.
“We were really using the car as a way to bring the Gospel message to the streets…to develop relationships with people and spark conversations with...

When it was announced last year that Sarah Palin was a the Republican nominee for Vice President, the Wasilla Bible Church in Wasilla, Alaska, became a hub for reporters. At the time, Pastor Larry Kroon, wasn’t sure how to handle the swarm. Journalists camped out at the church and pestered members as they were coming to worship all for a change to find out some dirt on Palin.
After the journalists moved on, Kroon hired a company to consult with him on how the church should have handled the...
