Christmas Invites
Posted December 07th 2010 @ 4:55 pm by JerodFor many churches, the Christmas season is already in full motion. Sermon series are started. Decorations are up. Traditional carols are in the air. Nothing has been stolen from the nativity set yet. Ahhhh…life is good.
And for some churches, the push is on to get attenders to invite guests to church this Christmas. That means putting poinsettias or fancy glossy cards in their hands as a tool to use to tart up conversations with their friends, co-workers or even strangers about coming to church.
I think invite tools are great when done well. The stats show the average Christian will never invite someone to church. Studies also show this is a time of year where more people are open to going (back) to church. So invite tools are a great way to bridge those two things.
Here’s a look at what my church is up to this year. We’re giving at a bundle that includes:
- Two cookie cutters with the church logo and web address
- Recipes for sugar cookies and icing
- A glossy folded card with information about the Christmas sermon series (I’ll Be Home for Christmas), Christmas Eve services and our annual Family Christmas Fest

As a church that has a high emphasis on family, the idea was to give out something that could inspire the family doing something together, like making cookies. Plus giving someone cookie cutters isn’t all that awkward of a thing. We’ve done poinsettias in the past or CDs with Christmas music by our worship team. While there’s nothing wrong with those, I think it’s a little bit more awkward to hand someone.
So I’m curious, what is your church doing? Feel free to share links to pictures as well. If you didn’t do an invite tool, share why you didn’t do it, too.
